The fight for
Freedom
“It’s a story of bravery, of sacrifice, and of determination. It’s a story of how we, de African people, stood up for ourselves and demanded our rights. And it’s a story that will always be remembered and celebrated. Me remember de blood, sweat and tears. Me remember…”
– Akua

Hallowed
Ground
Fond Doux Eco Resort stands on hallowed ground where history was forged. On April 22, 1795, this serene landscape bore witness to the Battle of Rabot – a defining clash in St. Lucia’s struggle against slavery.

Battle of
Rabot
The battle unfolded as over 1,000 British troops, including Black and white soldiers, marched from Vieux Fort to crush the rebellion. Flore, a former enslaved woman who had endured abuse before escaping to join the Armée Française dans les Bois, masterminded a devastating ambush.

A Living
Memorial
Today, Fond Doux’s tranquil beauty belies its fiery past. Visitors wandering its paths tread the same soil where freedom fighters once rallied. The estate’s preservation of colonial architecture and working cocoa fields serves as a living memorial to those who dared to defy tyranny.
