A Chocolate
Story

Fond Doux Eco Resort sits on one of St. Lucia’s oldest working cocoa estates, where chocolate has been part of daily life for generations. Guests can follow the entire “tree-to-bar” journey, from harvesting cocoa pods and fermenting the beans to traditional drying on sun-warmed trays. The resort’s commitment to preserving these time-honored methods keeps St. Lucia’s chocolate heritage alive, offering an authentic, hands-on taste of the island’s sweetest tradition.

Just returned from a wonderful weekend break staying at Hilltop Guava. Talk about hitting the reset button at Fond Doux. The setting is wonderful especially if nature is your thing. You are submerged in a tropical Rainforest with an abundance of beauty. There are lovely walks and trails and so many places closeby to visit. The staff are all so lovely. Mèsi to Sylvanna & Peter for taking the time to teach me some Creole. And it's great to see local inclusion and promotion unlike most other high end resorts on the island. Mèsi also to our charming Owner/Host, Lyton, for recounting many stories reminiscing about past traditions. Nothing about this place & experience feels contrived. Loved it!

Such a great location, spacious, comfortable accommodations with AC in bedrooms, lovely balcony! ☺The food was so good, fresh, homemade, amazing bakes, fish, Baron’s hot sauce so which we even brought home, fresh fruit, well done. Best English muffins I’ve ever had-I don’t eat them in the states. Room service was excellent as I wasn’t feeling well enough to go to dinner one night. A big thank you/shout out to Kiera at the front desk for getting us breakfast super early-6:30am, when we planned to go hiking up Gros Piton. She was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Sugar beach is a 7 min drive. ☹Better feedback/details about the hiking trails there. Our water stopped working in the middle of the night which was strange. We called and it was addressed but we didn’t know why.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the mango villa. It was a bit of a change from the beach vibe we’re used to but we quickly adjusted and found that we like both equally. If you are looking for a quiet and laid back vacation, I’d highly recommend this place. ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities

This is a 250 year-old plantation with updated cottages spread throughout over the property. If you like a natural and lush environment, you will be VERY happy here. Proximity to the sites of St. Lucia are perfect, considering most of them are in the Soufriere area. This is just south of town in the edge of the rainforest. The staff is attentive and helpful and the restaurant is pretty good so you could eat here all you want, but there are excellent restaurants in the area if you want to get off property. They have some accommodations in the front where you would not have to do a lot of stairs, but many of the cottages are on a hilltop with a lot of stairs to access them. Be careful as you pick your cabin to make sure it is compatible withyour physical abilities. The staff is personable and they have a free shuttle to Sugar Beach every day just a few minutes away, and they provide beach towels. I would also highly recommend the chocolate inside considering there’s a fraction of the price of the nearby resort. We enjoyed it, but you’d need to be a nature lover to really appreciate it ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities

On Saturday July 25th I celebrated my first anniversary. From the moment we stepped into the dining room, the staff greeted us with genuine warmth and promptly escorted us to a well decorated table. Our server guided us through the menu with expert care, leading to a delicious appetizer followed by a perfectly cooked main course and a decadent dessert that tasted remarkably fresh. Throughout the meal, the table was kept tidy and glasses were refilled without us ever having to ask, culminating in a warm thank-you and coat retrieval from the host as we departed into the evening. Time was well spent and we were comfortable and enjoyed every bit of it.

My husband and I are spending a week On the island staying at various different hotels on the island. On Fridays, they have the street parties on the northern side of the island which is an hour away from Sofriere. We stayed two nights in another hotel up north. Now back in Sofriere, being at this hotel, we realized we like this hotel better as far as quality. The people were sweet and even though the room we purchased was a room to come with no air, it ended up coming with air. Which was great as alot of hotels do not and it gets quite hot at night. The place was clean, bug free, and near the pools and restaurant. I’ll get the name of the place… we stayed at the “Begonia”. i’d recommend staying there if proximity matters and you don’t care about not having a mountain view. No stairs to climb up, easy bar and restaurant access and the first room by reception in case you need to run back and forth. I think we bought ours on Expedia and for a total of two days it costed us 400 total. I would definitely come back here as it is local owned, and nearby almost every excursion you wanna do (MJ ATV definitely a must try -ask for Courtney, the waterfalls, mudbaths, and botanical gardens) the hotel is also like a minute away from the beaches as well(sugar beach and horseback riding on the other beaches as well). If you stay at Hotel Fondue they have this and you can see the pitons Right outside today we’re gonna go to the chocolate making tour And tomorrow we’re gonna go to the ATVs and do a little sightseeing of the Pitons and mud baths….Cannot wait!

We came here end of June for our honeymoon from the UK. Where to start, really friendly staff and the cute little houses are situated within the cocoa plantation which is also a tropical fruit forest!!! It was paradise on earth, ripe mangoes, green coconuts, oranges, limes, bananas, breadfruit, star fruit all dripping from the trees. Why more people don't come in the "wet" season I don't know. It's still 30 degrees. Only a few short downpours and so much ripe fruit! All the food at the restaurant is grown on site and organic. Everyone was lovely, very healthy rum measures! Just a joy from start to finish. Can't recommend this place enough...and it's locally owned so the money is going back into the island instead of to the chain owned places like sugar beach etc. yes this is a little more rustic but don't pass this one by, an absolute gem. Will be a while before we can afford to visit st Lucia again but maybe see you for our ten year anniversary! What a dream X

Fabulous stay. Fabulous resort on a plantation. The setting is beautiful. There is a nature trail on site that leads to a view of one of the pitons. The food is delicious and comes from the site. We did the cocoa tour which was informative and personal. The rooms are unique. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this resort.

This is a unique resort to stay in and experience… truly eco and part of the landscape and an active cocoa plantation. Access to hiking is amazing and falling asleep to rainforest sounds- frogs, rain, etc.- is an experience you won’t get at other resorts. The cabins are private and have AC, mosquito nets for the bed (although we really didn’t need it), a decent sized fridge, coffee maker (amazing coffee!), electric kettle. The resort staff are absolutely wonderful! One of the owners talked with us on our last day, asked us about our trip and wanted to know what we liked and what could be improved. I’m sorry I don’t recall her name, but she’s wonderful and cares for the beautiful place she and her husband have created and wants to continuously improve on it for their customers. I have never experienced anything like that and it was a level of customer service that I think other resorts should aspire to. Here are my reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 for a few of the sections- cleaning and maintaining an eco resort in a rainforest must be an uphill challenge. Keeping that in mind, yes, our cabin needed some TLC in the bathroom (cracked sink, maybe some updating), but we had an outdoor shower! In the rainforest! I think there are some travelers for whom those details (the sink, etc) are important and then perhaps Fond Doux may not be the best choice for them. My family loved our stay. We’re especially grateful to the resort staff and drivers for sharing their island with us! ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities

First and lasting impressions -charming, super welcoming and attentive. First view colonial architecture-a bit old but totally charming. We are in the Tangerine room it is beautiful. A hammock on the patio, a choir of singing critters serenading outside and the Lush plants trees flowers and greenery was dreamlike . Bathroom was alright- not lush but fine. They provided hand soap and shower gel shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Seemed to be generic— if you like luxurious BR amenities bring your own. Towels were well sized… I am a towel freak in hotels. Our cottage had completely screened in windows which alleviated my mosquito concerns. The bedroom is totally air conditioned with mini split and a ceiling fan as well. No TV in the room really no need! Included breakfast was fine. We had dinner at the hotel and there was a good selection of choices. Food was fine! We had a GREAT driver who works for the hotel named GARIT (sp?) safe engaging and charming! Took the Coco tour two parts.. first history and process and then participating in making a chocolate bar … needs to be in freezer to set in the form. essentially, the people who make the chocolate bar get the previous guest’s chocolate to make sure it is cold and set, and so forth and so on. This is an ECO lodge in the rain forest not an inclusive luxuryloaded Fancy stressful show off place. It was earthy and really amazing with necessary creature comforts. Enjoy! And Thank you to the Lodge for a lovely stay

Elegant vintage-style eco luxury in the heart of the rainforest: no resort could ever match this. ☺Rooms/ cabins feel very secluded & private, beautifully furnished, surrounded by plants and wildlife. Restaurant is great, breakfast is lovely. Much better & more local style food than we found at any other hotel/resort restaurants we ended up eating at. The pool area is delightful, really well laid out for privacy so different groups can have their own areas. It would be a perfect setting for a pool party! The location is perfect for all the nearby forest/ volcano based activities and for getting to Soufrière and nearby beaches. I would definitely advise hiring a car so you have more freedom to explore independently; things look close together on a map but it’s very hilly and obviously very hot so walking anywhere takes much longer than predicted. This is not really a resort, it doesn’t feel like a resort, the clientele were not “resort types”… which is a big positive in our book! It is eco-luxury accommodation ie. as luxurious as one can reasonably expect whilst staying in the middle of gorgeous rainforest and trying to minimise impact on that environment. ☹I would advise bringing your own mosquito net and make sure it’s the right size for the bed (we were a bit squeezed in under ours). The nets provided on the four poster look very pretty & romantic but they don’t fully close so they don’t keep mozzies out. Also, not a negative but useful to know: the frogs are LOUD at night and they don’t stop til sunrise so we were very glad of our earplugs (we’ve slept in other jungles before but never experienced a wildlife chorus quite like this one!)

A unique setting with authentic historical cottages set in the rainforest. ☺ Location in the rainforest is magical but rather remote. The historic cottages provide simple, spacious and clean accommodation with outdoor showers. Staff are friendly and helpful. Meals are adequate but not fancy. Two swimming pools are very pleasant. Interesting paths and trails through the beautiful rainforest. ☹ The old cottages and bungalows set in a humid rainforest require more maintenance than was evident, and the furniture lacked the character and charm of the buildings.
