In the park, you’ll find an interpretation center, educational exhibits, the fortress ruins, the Neg Maron hideout, and a commemorative shrine honoring those who fought and fell.
Flore was a formerly enslaved woman who endured abuse before escaping to join the Armee Francaise dans les Bois. She masterminded the ambush at Rabot.
On April 22, 1795, this landscape was the site of a defining clash in St. Lucia’s struggle against slavery. Over 1,000 British troops, including Black and white soldiers, marched from Vieux Fort to crush the rebellion.
It preserves the legacy of the Battle of Rabot on the ground where the ambush took place. You can walk the ruins of an eighteenth century French fortress and a Neg Maron hideout, alongside other reminders of the island’s struggle for freedom.
Rather than build replicas, Fond Doux salvages abandoned colonial buildings from across St. Lucia and restores them here. Each cottage is furnished with pieces made by local artisans.
